New Tribune Series on "The Mercury Menace"

Today begins a special series in the Tribune on how mercury-contaminated fish are widely available at supermarkets around Chicagoland.

Hopefully Gov. Blagojevich will soon announce strict limits on power plant pollution to help solve this problem.

Good news if indeed the Governor plans to announce those strict limits. Last I heard he had approved two new "old technology" high polluting coal plants. Has he had a change of heart?

The Governor has indeed been pushing two new plants that don't use the best available pollution controls.

At the same time, he has been actively considering requiring new pollution controls on Illinois' existing plants, including major reductions in mercury emissions.
